Amateur Radio: How I became a Ham

Amateur Radio has open doors to employment opportunities meeting new friends on and off the air, and helped me serve my local community in times of emergency, special events and public awareness.

Communication is the key to recover from any disaster. Amateur radio is a balance where the hobby never interferes with family and job commitments.

The hobby is an enjoying time of talking, learning and teaching to other hams and non hams who may have an interest a like. The education is an asset. There are all types of people from all walks of life coming together with one thing in common-- Amateur Radio.

I enjoy this hobby very much - the hobby has helped me personally to reconnect with people to establish trust, and boost my self esteem.

If you would like to learn more about amateur radio please feel free to e-mail me. Tim_kc6qlv@hotmail.com or at www.arrl.org

Here is my Biography on how I came a ham and got started with the Hayward Radio Club. Enjoy and God Bless. Tim KC6QLV

I was born in 1966 in San Francisco, Ca. I am the youngest of a family of four with one brother and two sisters. I lived in Hayward pretty much my whole life. I got interested in electronics at a young age, my friend Ray Mitchell and I lived around the corner from each other, and at the age of 7 Ray taught me all about the resistor color code and electronics. I went away for high school in Santa Barbara Ca (1981-1985), there I met Rev Alberic Smith OFM WA6IMZ (Now living In Spokane, WA) Fr Alby as we called him operated out of a room on one side of the school property. The property was around 16 acres. Fr. Alby worked 160 meter band by using a random wire stretched from his "Shack" up to the tower and back down to the other side of the property. He made all kinds of contacts in Central and South American countries using CW. He was good, in fact he was too good! It was my first time exposure to the hobby. In 1986- I first got into radio by operating C.B. and after a few years I became bored with it. A lot of my high school friends asked me about earning my amateur radio license since I became a natural about Radio and RF. In 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake hit the Bay Area, it was eye opener for me to learn more about emergency communications. In April of 1990 I met Terry Taylor N6MON and learned about the ham radio class at the HRC. I learned a lot, studied the morse code tapes from home and at the class. I took the test and LA LA earned my Novice license KC6QLV on a grant date of December 1990. I started to study for the Tech exam, after the third attempt I passed my Tech. (Since The FCC passed the No Code license I was automatically grandfathered to a Tech plus, a license above 50 mhz with HF privileges in the Novice Sub bands.) Today I hold a General Class License with the same call sign KC6QLV. The hobby has opened doors to employment opportunities over the years along with earning my Associate Applied Science degree in Electronics from Heald College in October of 1997. I've returned To HRC what HRC has taught me so much about the hobby. Two of my friends became hams recently, Ray Mitchell- KI6FYU a friend who taught me the resistor color code, and my friend Mike Comer KI6TZF who I met Working at Southland Mall Security in Hayward, Ca. Both became HRC members do to my persistence in mentoring. I call this passing the baton to the next generation of ham radio operators. To date I am active on the nets, participated in Air Shows, Ohlone 50K, Skyline 50K, the Mount HAmilton bicycle classic, became a volunteer with the City of Hayward Office of Emergency Services through R.A.C.E.S participated in simulated disaster drills, and performed as a Net control operator during the nets. Most Important active in participant in Field Day! I hope Amateur Radio hobby stays alive and well as long there is a need in emergency communications. I love this hobby and I enjoy being a mentor teaching and giving advice to anyone who asks me and / or wants more information about this wonderful hobby. - Tim, KC6QLV

TIME WAITS FOR NO ONE: HAPPY THANKSGIVING

For a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin - real life.
But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, a debt to be paid.
Life would begin. At last at dawned on me to see that these obstacles were my life.
This perspective has helped me to see that there is no way to happiness.
Happiness is the way, So, treasure every moment you have. And treasure it more because you shared it with someone special, special enough to spend your time...
and remember that time waits for no one...
HAPPINESS IS A JOURNEY NOT A DESTINATION.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

REST FOR THE WEARY Matthew 11:28-29

Matthew 11:28-29

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

Rest for the weary. Ever felt the cards are stacked against your favor? Have you ever felt that the world as a whole works against you? I use to think that way after I stopped going to church. It's a horrible feeling. I got down to reading the Gospel according to Matthew this weekend, a couple chapters of bible reading per day and your soul will recharge itself. I read this passage from above and flashed back to my High School days from Santa Barbara, Ca (St. Anthony's Seminary 1985). Things were much different back than, but the stress was the same. It puts a whole new concept, how you deal with stress, how you interact with your family, friends, and co-workers. MUST have Christ in the center of your life deal with such stress, I find a whole new way of looking at life with my high school days a block form. The Stress that's from Family issues, my Son has a genetic disorder, divisions within the family circle, The fiances mounting into a mountain of debt, and work gets ever demanding on performance. That's the Stress I am talking about, but I SHOULD NOT complain because I know to a certain degree that My neighbor next to me has it that much harder in LIFE. It's Jesus Christ that pulls it in all together to deal with your Stress on a day to day basis.

The Holidays is upon us, So go out and serve the Lord by volunteering, give away to the needy, and praise God for the GIFT OF LIFE! Allow Jesus Christ into your Life and let HIM take the burden of your troubles in your life.

God Bless, Your brother in Christ, Tim

GOD'S Grace: His Power of Healing

John 8:1-11
Jesus returned to the Mount of Olives, but early the next morning he was back again at the Temple. A crowd soon gathered, and he sat down and taught them. As he was speaking, the teachers of religious law and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in the act of adultery. They put her in front of the crowd.
“Teacher,” they said to Jesus, “this woman was caught in the act of adultery. The law of Moses says to stone her. What do you say?”
They were trying to trap him into saying something they could use against him, but Jesus stooped down and wrote in the dust with his finger. They kept demanding an answer, so he stood up again and said, “All right, but let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!” Then he stooped down again and wrote in the dust.
When the accusers heard this, they slipped away one by one, beginning with the oldest, until only Jesus was left in the middle of the crowd with the woman. Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?”
“No, Lord,” she said.
And Jesus said, “Neither do I. Go and sin no more.” —————

Somebody once told me in a deep conversation that we were having one evening, her concern was If God was punishing her for the affair she was having with a friend that was married? Her and her male friend who was married, they been dating for a time and she wanted to get married herself and have more children. She was in deep emotion when she asked me why is God punishing me and what do you think of me for living a life like I do she said.

I gave an answer quoting John 8: 1-11 where a woman who was caught in adultery was brought before Jesus. I told her first, That I myself is without sin, and therefore I don't judge you for what you do in your personal life. Second, I told her as long as you are repentant and Truly Sorry for the Life you live, God Will Forgive You, if you ask. (Matthew 7:7-8):

"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened."

I concluded the conversation that she should focus on her own goals in LIFE, discontinue the relationship, but KEEP him as a Friend only. Somethings are never ment to be, especially if your crossing the extreams on another relationship--- A Marriage. Marriages as we all know is a union between man and woman through God. (Matthew 19:4-6)

"Haven't you read," he replied, "that at the beginning the Creator 'made them male and female,and said, 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh'? So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.

GOD HEALS AND FORGIVES: Daily Struggles. AVOID FAILURES

PRAYER OF SAINT FRANCIS OF ASSISI

Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace;
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.
Amen.

1 Peter 1:13-14

Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed. As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.

Avoid failures, and set your mind to the grace of God through the Lord Jesus Christ.

The First letter of Peter in Chapter 1 reminds us to put ourselves in a mind set to avoid failure.

The prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi has a smoothing sound to it. It's a prayer of opposites, that we are reminded to achieve eternal life. The Bible teaches forgiveness, love your enemies and pray to those who persecute you.

SAYING GOOD BY TO YOUR PAST. 1 Peter 14-16

As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance, but like the Holy One who called you,be holy yourselves also in all your behavior;
because it is written, "YOU SHALL BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY."

Let your past go it will only brings you down. I can count to a zillion times to tell you how true this is. An easy trap to fall in, to start drinking and/or drug use. For some people this may be a difficult task since they want to rekindle that broken relationship and/or friendship. It takes time to get over a broken relationship especially if an relationship lasts more than 5, 10, and possibly even more as 20 years. It hits you like a BRICK WALL. From My personal experience it's a void that needs to be filled. How you fill that void is totally up to you Positive or negative. Today I look toward our Lord for His guidance, ask for His wisdom and His Protection. If the Friendship or relationship was meant to be the LORD Will provide. If Not You and I my friends have to move on: SO TRY TO FORGET THE PAST

2 Corinthians 5 :17

Therefore if anyone is in Christ he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come.

If you find it difficult to get over your hangups, your troubles and/ or addictions, I can't stress it enough for you to seek professional help. TRY Celebrate Recovery it works, IT Works for me!!!! www.celebraterecovery.com

God Bless To each one of you.

PHILIPPIANS 3:13-14

Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

This passage taken from Saint Paul's letter to the Philippians says a lot. I Learned this passage from my Senior Pastor from Church. ( The Bible has an answer to ALL Life's problems.) As the days go by so does my recovering process from alcoholism and depression. I am finding something new everyday about myself I never knew. I Learn that regardless what kind of background, what kind of lifestyle, God FORGIVES, AND HEALS By giving His Son's, Christ Jesus' death on a cross. Amazing GRACE FROM OUR LORD!!

Life is full of challenges. I pray for this country of ours as it struggles through the economic times. I pray for President Elect Senator Obama and his Family, and that the new administration guides this country to prosperous times.

God Bless To all who are suffering from alcoholism, depression, from broken families and homes because of it. DON'T Give Up, there is a light. Just keep moving forward, keep praying and keep motivated. Christmas season will be here soon, so REACH OUT TO YOUR NEIGHBOR And Let them know how important they are!!

EPHESIANS 4:26 St.Paul's letter to the Ephesians

Ephesians 4:26

" In your anger do not sin." Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry,"

This one passage taken from Saint Paul's Letter to Ephesians tells a lot on how to control anger. It also tells me a lot how marriages, personal friendships, relationships in general keep healthy. I heard this passage from a recent testimony at Celebrate Recovery last month and thought about it and It's TRUE!!! Keeping things on a short stick, don't let anger build up, Don't let anger control your life. I think back to my youth in High School and College years. I ask myself where did I go wrong? I let the little things build up, I Let my anger get the best of me, and I started to drink!
Today, marks Day 134 of my sobriety. I dedicate this blog to all my relationships and friends I lost to my alcoholism, and May this blog page reach to those who are hurting, dealing with depression and anger that God may send them His healing power. AMEN

GOD/ LORD JESUS CHRIST CURES / My Depression has left me!

This past week has been one phenomenal week! After last Friday 10/24/08 SJSU Game where I met my friend to watch the game till today 10/31/08 Halloween, I've seen an improvement within myself, I don't get upset over anything, 2 Timothy 22-26 "Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. Don't have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. And the Lord's servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will."

It's remarkable how the healing power of you LORD can do!!! Another bible verse that comes to mind that I have totally forgotten : It Comes from LUKE 6:35

But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked."

Yes! " Without expecting anything back.." I think this was my heart of my depression issues because I would expect something in return that never materialized.

Everyone, including families, personal friends and even co-workers and formal co-workers have their "issues." Just recently after some deep thought of e-mail exchanges I have come to realization that even two people who live completely different life styles can be friends without influencing each other. Years ago people who I just described through this friend would pull me down, use my kindness to their advantage to buy drugs in East Oakland at 2:00am, give them rides, loan them money, It was a disaster!!! TODAY It's a completely different tune, I have isolated my feelings, accepted the facts, THE TRUTH and I can HONESTLY SAY It does not bother me. I ALLOW GOD/ JESUS CHRIST With The Power of The HOLY SPIRIT TO BE CENTER OF MY LIFE NOT THE PART OF MY LIFE, THE CENTER OF MY LIFE!!! THIS IS WHAT I CALL ESTABLISHED BOUNDARIES BETWEEN TWO FRIENDS. I CAN'T CHANGE MY FRIEND, My formal co-worker, ONLY God/Higher Power can do that. You see about 7 to 10 years Ago I thought I can change people, and that's where I found trouble!!! I've LEARNED, And God has Taught me well through my personal friend that I am using as example.

Five years ago I was at my LOWEST POINT AFTER MY BOUT OF SUICIDAL TENDENCIES, NOT a Place to be, believe me you do not want to be there!! I Lost Trust to all my friends, family, and even God If you can believe that one. So how do you recover? I used My hobby Amateur radio to start communicating on the airwaves. To get my mind motivated, I had to learn Let go some of my pain, hurts and hangups. However I was still going through Bouts of Alcoholism withdraw at the same time adjusting my anti depressant medications. It was a eye opening experience!! But God Did Not Stop there, Oh no He keeps going..

Take this bible passage from Philippians 1:6

"being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."

Do you see What God/ Higher Power is doing?

With that God Bless,
